We acquired the boat in poor shape in 2006 and began what became a major refit. She weighs about 17,000 pounds, has a 10’5″ beam and a 4.5′ draft. Its 38ft, plus a 2ft bowsprit, plus dinghy davits for an overall length of 47ft.

The boat was designed by Phillip Rhodes and built by Seafarer Yachts in New york in 1973. Phillip Rhodes kept one as his personal boat, and if that is not something to judge a boat by, I don’t know what is; his daughter still sails it. Seafarer never really took off as a company and went under in the early 1980’s when all of the other boat companies were going bankrupt around the same time. Originally the boats were built in Holland. They are little known, but generally well liked boats by the people who own them and several have done extensive cruising.

<div id="attachment_77" style="width: 575px" class="wp-caption
